“They've gone from Hero to Zero in the space of a year.”
I've used dreamhost for almost 8 years now. Over the last few I've been running large sites on multiple VPS. We've had three periods of significant downtime in the last 12 months, two lasting over 24 hours. One was because of the DDOS attack on DH; so we can write that one off. The other two were due to mistakes made by Dreamhost when performing updates. The communication and support offered during this time was appalling. In the most recent, they made a mistake when performing an update and restored a 2 week old version of our database, and didn't even tell us. This has all proven very costly. It could have been salvaged with some halfway decent support, but they're just sticking their heads in the sand. Very poor.

“Used to be the best, hope they get back to that level”
I've been loyal to Dream Host throughout all my business websites in the past 6 years. They were always on point, used to be the best host you can find. Lately it's been getting sketchy, especially in the support department. Whatever issue I would have for the past few months, the support couldn't resolve it, or I simply could not even get in touch with them at times... I'm still having e-mail issues, they haven't been able to figure out how to fix it yet. I hope they sort things out soon, I wouldn't want to have to migrate elsewhere. I'm afraid I'd have to, if they continue with this kind of service.

Dreamhost has very poor and slow customer support, especially if you're locked out of your account or need to re-set your password. There is no way to reach customer support without filling out a lengthy form, then submitting your request -- at which point, the browser window gets hung up in an endless loop. There's no other way to reach them. I had to resort to Twitter, at which point they responded and requested my email address, to which they would reply. They followed up with a standardized email last night, saying they would be in touch within 24 hours. It's now been 15 hours and no response. I'll wait until the end of the day, but am seriously considering switching to godaddy. Deeply frustrating.

What hosting company updates VPS software in the middle of the day. Had to pull a client because of their stupid stupid 1 1/2 hour outage in the middle of the day. No refunds being offered. Probably will have to sue. Definitely not recommending them again.
